The Introductction of streptomycin sulfate
What is Streptomycin Sulfate?
Streptomycin sulfate is the sulfate form of streptomycin, an antibiotic produced by Streptomyces griseus, an actinomycete genus, in soil. Streptomycin is the first chemotherapeutic drug to be introduced with definitive efficacy for tuberculosis. This product must be administered intramuscularly, so that its long-term application, limited. Streptomyces streptomyces is the most potent yet least toxic antibiotic obtained by Streptomyces for parenteral application. The present product is a bactericide and is probably effective by its direct action on bacterial ribosomes, inhibiting protein synthesis, and mainly Acting on extracellular (including inside cavities) tubercle bacilli.
The Application & Function of streptomycin sulfate
Streptomycin sulfate has potent antimicrobial activity against tuberculous bacilli, not against most gram-positive cocci (eg, various streptococci) and bacilli (eg, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, anaerobes), and against many gram-negative bacilli, all of which are effective against various cutaneous forms of tuberculosis, inhibiting the propagation of tuberculous bacilli and toxin production at high concentrations (> 0.4 μ G / ml) are bactericidal. Tuberculosis resistance to streptomycin develops rapidly and is suitable for use in combination with other anti tuberculosis drugs. The combination of streptomycin sulfate and isoniazid, another highly effective fungicide that has been approved for parenteral applications, results in immediate chemicalbook efficacy against susceptible bacteria and, in the critically ill setting, often receives a return to death efficacy. Streptomycin sulfate has the greatest efficacy during the first few weeks or months of treatment. Perhaps because the drug is applied outside the gastrointestinal tract and the serum concentration increases quickly, it seems that it can enhance oral efficacy, and even highly effective drugs such as ethambutol and isoniazid may be favored for compatibility.
Clinical studies have shown that a four drug regimen consisting of streptomycin sulfate, rifampicin, isoniazid, and pyrazinamide has the strongest bactericidal effect, and that treatment with this regimen for 2 months, followed by 4 months of isoniazid and rifampicin, is comparable to any other regimen for any treatment of susceptible bacterial infections.
Streptomycin sulfate has antibacterial effect on most Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, especially on a variety of Gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Pasteurella, Brucella, pneumoniae, dysentery, aerogenic bacteria and Bacillus melioides. Streptomycin sulfate is the first choice of anti tuberculosis drugs. It has a strong effect on tuberculosis. It has a strong bacteriostatic effect at low concentration and bactericidal effect at high concentration. Because only 10% can penetrate into somatic cells, it has no effect on intracellular tuberculosis and can only kill extracellular tuberculosis. It has stronger bactericidal effect on bacteria in reproductive period than bacteria in resting period. Different from penicillin, its bactericidal speed is directly proportional to the drug concentration. Its antibacterial effect is the strongest at pH 7.8, and it is greatly weakened when pH falls below 6. Agricultural streptomycin sulfate is an antibiotic fungicide, which can prevent and control bacterial diseases of many crops and some fungal diseases.
